Zumalakarregi Museum in Ormaiztegi reopens its doors

Following restoration works a wheelchair access has been installed and the permanent exhibition has been enlarged.

The interior of the museum

Zumalakarregi Museum opened its doors first time nearly twenty years ago. Apart from going deep in the story of well-known Carlist general Tomas Zumalakarregi, the museum provides a comprehensive view of 19th century life in Gipuzkoa. For several months the place has been closed to the public for it has undergone exhaustive restoration works.

On the one hand it should be noted that obstacles have been removed and now the centre has wheelchair access. On the other hand, the permanent exhibition has been enlarged, thereby including information about the Carlist general's brother, military Miguel Antonio Zumalakarregi, and the Carlist War 2. An interactive system, known as "Historia militar del País Vasco en el siglo 19" (Military History in 19th century Basque Country) has been included in the compound together with new contents in the Documentation Centre.

The museum is open to the public from Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 1pm and from 3pm to 7pm, on the weekends and bank holidays from 11am to 2pm and from 4pm to 7pm. Ordinary tickets cost 1.20 Euro, tickets for students and retired people 1 Euro, free for children under 10 and every Thursday as well. Guided tours cost 1 Euro extra.
